Evie Litwok is the Founder and Executive Director of Witness to Mass Incarceration, an organization dedicated to advocating for economic liberation and justice for formerly incarcerated individuals (FIP), system-impacted communities, and LGBTQ+ youth. A formerly incarcerated Jewish lesbian and child of Holocaust survivors, Evie draws from her personal experiences in federal women’s prisons to champion the rights and dignity of those impacted by the carceral system.

One of Evie’s signature achievements is the creation of The MAP Project, the first online directory of formerly incarcerated-led businesses and services. Designed to promote, populate, and support FIP-owned ventures, The MAP Project lays the foundation for an economic infrastructure that empowers formerly incarcerated individuals to achieve housing and food security, reduce recidivism, and build generational wealth.

In addition to her work at Witness to Mass Incarceration, Evie serves as the Director of Re-Entry for the Queens Economic Development Corporation, where she leads a workforce development initiative funded by a four-year U.S. Department of Justice grant. This program provides specialized training and job placement support for FIP communities.

Evie’s work has been featured in publications like The Nation and The Forward. As a speaker and writer, she advocates for systemic change on issues such as solitary confinement, aging, and LGBTQ+ rights in prison, striving to dismantle barriers to reentry and end mass incarceration.
